Recommendations
Standard personal protection measures against respiratory illnesses include the following:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for about 40 seconds, or with an alcohol-based hand rub and dry your hands with paper. The University has equipped all buildings with disinfectant alcohol-based solutions, which are available in the secretaries' offices in the faculties, and in the receptions of the main entrances. A sign has been placed at each entrance giving details of the location of the nearest dispenser.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, using either disposable handkerchiefs or the inside of your elbow.
- Avoid sharing food or utensils (cutlery, glasses, napkins, handkerchiefs, etc.) and other objects (pens, pencils, etc.) unless they have been properly cleaned.
- Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms on influenza or cold.
- No special precautions are required with animals and food in Catalonia.
- The UVic cleaning service will ensure that items used by the public such as door handles, telephones, tables, railings, etc. are kept particularly clean.
Common symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, cough, and general discomfort.
The infection can cause pneumonia, renal failure, and other complications in the most severe cases.
3. Responses in the event of COVID-19 detection or suspicion within the University Community Open/Close
Anyone in the community who is suspected of being affected by the Covid-19 virus should:
- Visit the CatSalut webpage.
- Contact Catsalut (061) and strictly follow the measures specified.
- In the event of contagion or need for confinement, communicate the situation to the University:
- A student will communicate it to the Head of Studies of his/her degree who will inform the Faculty Dean.
- A member of the Teaching or Research Staff will inform the Head of Department, who will notify the Faculty Dean.
- A member of the Administration Staff will inform the Area Manager.
In each case, each faculty or management body will contact the Office of Occupational Hazard Prevention and Executive Secretary of the University for proper follow-up and establishment of any additional precautionary action.
During this health alert, travel restriction is highly recommended. Only essential journeys and / or trips that cannot be postponed should be made. Travel to risky countries (mainland China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Iran and Italy) will be suspended.
Those persons who also require to travel for activities that are deemed unavoidable, will notify the Dean / Head of Area and the International Relations Office in advance, in order to keep track of the people on mobility at all times.
Students participating in mobility programs in universities located in a country or region of risk, must follow the indications of local licensed health care providers. In the event that the Spanish health authorities issue recommendation actions that involve the immediate return or suspension of the activity, the Faculty where the student is enrolled will provide, with the support and coordination of the Office of International Relations, the necessary support for the management of his return. Students who must suspend their stay, either voluntarily or after instructions from health authorities will have the opportunity continue studies and evaluation processes through the corresponding faculty.
