The Institute for Research and Innovation in Life Sciences and Health in Central Catalonia (IRIS-CC) is now up and running. The Institute's Board of Trustees met on 31 May and it began work in 1 June. More than 300 researchers had already expressed their wish to join when it was established.

Jordi Baiget i Cantons has been the new general manager of the Balmes University Foundation since last Wednesday. His appointment took effect after approval by the institution's Board of Trustees, which met this afternoon, of the proposal of its president, Anna Erra.

The institutional ceremony, presided by the Catalan Minister of Research and Universities Gemma Geis and part of the events celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the unanimous approval of the Law recognising the University of Vic by the Parliament of Catalonia on 21 May 1997, took place at midday in the Aula Magna of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC).

The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Parliament of Catalonia's unanimous approval the Law recognizing the University of Vic by the 112 members of the Chamber falls on 21 May. The historic session which took place in 1997 led to the re-establishment of the university that the city had lost in 1717 with the New Plant decree enacted by the Spanish king Philip V.

A group of eleven FEC students are participating in the Fashion Marketing Open Mind Programme, a short-term mobility programme that takes place at the French Mod'Spe fashion creativity and business school in Paris, from 13 to 18 November. The programme, which was organised by the Faculty's International Unit, was aimed above all at Marketing and Business Communication and Advertising and Public Relations students, although it was also open to students on other courses at the centre.

The BETA Technology Center of the University of Vic Central University of Catalonia played a major role at the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which took place in Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt) from 6 to 18 November. The director of the CT BETA, Sergio Ponsá, represented the centre in three sessions in which he participated as a speaker, as part of the programme of activities that took place in the Mediterranean Pavilion.

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) has this year surpassed the threshold of 11,000 students on official degree programmes for the first time, and in specific terms, has 11,588 students enrolled, 7% more in than the previous year. New entrance registrations for official UVic-UCC degrees for 2022-2023 ended with 3,866 students, a figure that is a 3% increase compared to the previous year.

Eleven lecturers and researchers at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) appear on the World's Top 2% Scientists list of the world's most cited scientists, which was recently published by Stanford University (USA).

The vice-rector for International Relations, Josep Bau, and the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering, Malu Calle, were members of a Catalan delegation that visited Mexico City last week. The programme they participated in, which was organised by the SciTech DiploHub foundation, aims to foster collaborations with universities and research centres in the field of science and technology.

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) began the 2022-2023 academic year on Friday morning with a ceremony that for the first time took place in the University's Paranymph, located in the Hospital de la Santa Creu in Vic, which was also officially open on the same day.
