The UVic-UCC has obtained a patent protecting the production process of a plant growth biostimulant made from non-hazardous bacterial microorganisms which have improved the growth of some plants by 30% in field studies. The patent is owned in equal shares by the Balmes University Foundation, the institution which owns the UVic-UCC, and two alumni of the University, Verónica Mosquera, a graduate in Biotechnology, and Rubén Hidalgo, a graduate in Environmental Sciences, who carried out the project as part of their Final Year Project (FYP).
The number of new access registrations for official qualifications at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia has increased by 6% in the 2016-17 academic year (to a total of 2,632 new students) and by 12% if total registration for official qualifications is taken into account.
The Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVic-UCC) is the most transparent university in the Spanish State. It is also second on the overall ranking that includes all centres, regardless of whether they are public. The list, which is published by the Fundación Compromiso y Transparencia (Commitment and Transparency Foundation), was compiled with data from 2015 and the UVic-UCC climbed ten positions with respect to the previous year.
The triathlete and leading international expert in the field of sports nutrition, Asker Jeukendrup, will be visiting the UVic-UCC campus in Vic on 15 and 16 November to give two lectures. The first is aimed at students and teaching staff on the degree courses in Nutrition and Dietetics and Physical Education and Sports Sciences, entitled "How to translate scientific information into understandable information for everybody.
Since October, the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) has been a full member of the European University Association (EUA), the organisation that brings together universities and rectors' conferences all over Europe. Membership involves joining a network of over 850 institutions in 47 European countries, which aims to be the unified voice of European universities, both at Brussels and before any other institution, and to influence European Union policies in areas such as higher education, research and innovation.
The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) has officially inaugurated the 2016-2017 academic year this afternoon with a ceremony in the Aula Magna of the UVic Campus. The inauguration ceremony also acted as the starting signal for the events commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the University, which is being celebrated throughout this academic year.
The whole UVic-UCC community extends condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the bus accident which took place this morning on the AP7 motorway at Freginals. The Board of Trustees of the Balmes University Foundation and the Rector of UVic-UCC lament these unfortunate deaths and express their solidarity with the bereaved.
