Eleven UVic-UCC lecturers and researchers are among the world's most cited scientists

Eleven lecturers and researchers at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) appear on the World's Top 2% Scientists list of the world's most cited scientists, which was recently published by Stanford University (USA). They are the rector of UVic-UCC, Josep Eladi Baños; the dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Technology and Engineering, Malu Calle; the dean elect of the Faculty of Medicine, Roberto Elosua; the directors of the chairs of Palliative Care, Xavier Gómez-Batiste, and Infectious Diseases and Immunity, Bonaventura Clotet, who are both lecturers the Faculty of Medicine, and the lecturers at the same centre Josep Tabernero, Xavier Montalban, Enriqueta Felip, Mar Tintoré, Dídac Mauricio and Jordi Amblàs.

This database is based on articles published in the scientific repository Scopus, produced by from the publishing house Elsevier, which is one of the most widely recognised internationally. In specific terms, it contains a record of nearly nine million researchers and researchers who are considered to be actively working. It creates two different rankings based on the number of articles they have published, the citations those articles have obtained and other parameters, including the h-index and the number of solo and joint authorships: the first, from a long-term perspective, considers the lifelong research history; the second, which is based on recent citations, is limited to publications dating from 2021. The two resulting lists contain the 2% most cited scientists, who are also classified into 22 fields of knowledge and 176 subfields.

Ten UVic-UCC teaching and research staff are among the most cited in 2021

The first ranking, which lists the 2% of scientists with the most extensively cited articles in 2021, contains a list of 200,409 names, including ten who are teaching and research staff at UVic-UCC. The ranking is headed by Josep Tabernero, a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and head of the Oncology Service at the Hospital de la Vall d'Hebron, who is in 1,640th position, with 8,694 citations, followed by Xavier Montalban and Enriqueta Felip, in positions 10,596 and 16,027, with 5,174 and 8,848 citations respectively.

Also on the list are Roberto Elosua (ranked in position 32,506 with 5,518 citations), Mar Tintoré (ranked in position 62,536 with 1,684 citations), Dídac Mauricio (in position 91,416 with 1,512 citations), Malu Calle (in position 93,418 with 347 citations), Bonaventura Clotet (in position 130,811 with 1,298 citations), Xavier Gómez-Batiste (in position 193,856 with 233 citations) and Jordi Amblàs (in position 199,858 with 150 citations).

 
Seven UVic-UCC teaching and research staff members in the all-time ranking

The ranking is based on the more long-term career of researchers and includes 195,605 people, of whom seven teach at UVic-UCC. The first of these is also Josep Tabernero, who is ranked in position 6,965, with 609 published articles and 54,994 citations. He is followed by Xavier Montalban, who is ranked in position 17,079, with 740 articles and 39,676 citations, and Bonaventura Clotet, in position 28,299, with 874 articles and 31,437 citations.

This list also includes - in the following order - Enriqueta Felip (ranked in position 35,518, with 349 articles and 44,152 citations), Roberto Elosua (ranked in position 52,713, with 415 articles and 33,385 citations) and Mar Tintoré (in position 74,776, with 243 articles and 10,457 citations), as well as the rector, Josep Eladi Baños (in position 176,247, with 214 articles and 2,303 citations).

According to the report's classification, all eleven researchers carry out their research in the field of clinical medicine, except for Bonaventura Clotet, who works in biomedical research.
