Ramon Besa i Camprubí is named doctor honoris causa

The Executive Committee of the Balmes University Foundation (FUB) has approved the investiture of the journalist Ramon Besa i Camprubí as a doctor honoris causa of the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC). The proposal, made by the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies (FEC), confers recognition on one of the leading sports journalists in Catalonia's print media, who has strong links to the region and is firmly committed to the territory.

The investiture ceremony will take place at 12 noon on 20 June in the Aula Magna of the UVic. The sponsor of the ceremony will be the Dean of the FEC, Elisenda Tarrats, and the Vice-Dean, Xavier Ginesta, will give the laudatory speech. The event will also be attended by the journalist's colleagues, relatives and friends.

Besa, who was born in Perafita, in the Lluçanès region, holds a degree in journalism and is currently editor-in-chief of El País newspaper in Barcelona. A contributor to Ràdio Barcelona and Catalunya Ràdio, he is also a lecturer in Journalism at Ramon Llull University. He was chief sports editor at the newspaper Avui between 1979 and 1986, and was a founding editor of El 9 Nou. He has published several books, has been a vice-dean of the College of Journalists of Catalonia, and is currently a member of the Sports Committee of the Ernest Lluch Foundation. He has also received several awards such as the City of Barcelona Journalism Prize in 2000, the Quim Regàs Prize for Journalism in 2008, the Manuel Vázquez Montalbán International Journalism Prize in 2009 and the bronze medal for Sports Merit from the Superior Council of Sports in 2013.
