The Faculty of Health and Welfare signs an internship mobility agreement with a hospital in Gambia
UVic-UCC signed an agreement with the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Gambia this March, through the Faculty of Health and Welfare Sciences of the Vic campus and UManresa. Under the terms of the agreement, and starting in the 2022-2023 academic year, three students on the EHEA degree course in Nursing and three on the EHEA degree course in Physiotherapy will be able to do the final internship of their degree course in the hospital, which has 600 beds and is the largest in Gambia. The agreement also follows on from the Fisiàfrica project, which trains physiotherapists in various countries in Africa, with which UVic-UCC was involved between 2014 and 2018.
The agreement was reached after months of joint work, and the University of Lleida and the University of the Balearic Islands are also involved. It was concluded during a trip to Gambia by Montse Romero, the head of International Relations of the FHSW. During her trip, Romero also visited the hospital and established relations with the University of Gambia and the National Nutrition Agency in order to explore other avenues of cooperation between UVic-UCC and those institutions.
