New 'Study Abroad' programmes begin, exceeding pre-pandemic figures

After more than two years of being affected by Covid-19, the Study Abroad international programmes begin this September with numbers that far exceed pre-pandemic enrolments.

The programme will involve a total of 98 students this autumn, who are mostly from the United States, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Brazil, and have decided to spend one or two semesters at UVic-UCC to expand their knowledge in the areas of study available there, and to have an international experience.

Next academic year, UVic-UCC will have a new Faculty of Design and Engineering and two new degrees in Barcelona with the incorporation of Elisava

The Universitat de Vic - Universitat  Central de Catalunya (UVic-UCC) will kick off academic year 2021-2022 by expanding its range of academic programmes to a total of 37 degrees taught between the Vic and Manresa campuses, the new Barcelona campus, the branch in Granollers and its affiliated centres.

A report reveals that the digital solutions currently available to informal caregivers do not meet all of their needs

There are currently many information and communication technology (ICT) solutions in Europe for people providing care to those living with Alzheimer's disease. These solutions provide tools to help informal caregivers in areas such as reducing their workload, anxiety, stress and its negative consequences, and increasing opportunities for positive interactions and support. Many of these digital solutions involve co-creation methods in their design, which means they have been created with input from end users, who in this case are informal caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

A Catalan-led European research project will involve caregivers of people with Alzheimer's in creating ICT tools to make their lives easier

About 50 million people worldwide are currently suffering from dementia, and 10 million new cases are identified every year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), which considers it an increasingly common chronic disease. In this context, a European research project has just been launched which aims to develop ICT tools designed to facilitate everyday care for people with Alzheimer's disease, the most common type of dementia.

UVic-UCC becomes a one hundred percent online university and transfers its entire academic activity to the Internet

Two weeks after moving to online teaching as a result of the suspension of face-to-face academic activities due to the coronavirus outbreak, classes on all bachelor's degree courses at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) are continuing through a variety of digital resources and platforms, with the Virtual Campus at the core of relationships and contact between teachers and students.

Carlo Manzo is co-organising the AnDi Challenge, a scientific challenge to solve the problem of the anomalous diffusion of particles based on simple trajectories

The coordinator of the Quantitative Biolmaging research group (QuBi Lab) at UVic-UCC, Carlo Manzo, is organising the AnDi Challenge with members of other European universities and research centres. This scientific challenge is aimed at other researchers, and aims to bring the scientific community together to work on solving a problem for which no single consensus-based solution has been found, although various methods and theories have been developed over the years: the anomalous diffusion of simple trajectories.

Statement by the UVic-UCC to the university community on the coronavirus

Following the declaration of the new coronavirus as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Balmes University Foundation, the rector's office of the University of Vic - University of Central Catalonia and the institution's Health and Safety Committee have issued a statement. The document lists the most important information about this outbreak, known as COVID-19, to inform the university community about this disease.

Disruptive technologies will define the public participation processes of the future

Government bodies, institutions and organisations such as municipal councils and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), are increasingly using websites, mobile applications and other digital resources to engage citizens in policymaking and public decision-making. However, most of these public participation forums are used to a limited extent for practical purposes, or there is no effective consistency between their theoretical objectives and their practical application.
