BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL
If you are citizen from an EU country, you have no legal formalities to complete before coming to Spain.
UPON YOUR ARRIVAL
All citizens belonging to the European Union or European Economic Area member state, as well as the Swiss Confederation, and who intend to reside in Spain for a period of time longer than three months must register at the Central Registry Office for Foreigners (Registro Central de Extranjeros) in order to be issued a certificate of registration and an identity number for foreigners (NIE - Número de Identificación de Extranjeros).

Get the appointment at this website
- Select: Barcelona (if you live in the province of Barcelona)
- Select: 4. Certificados y Asignación NIE > POLICIA-CERTIFICADOS Y ASIGNACIÓN NIE > Entrar > Write your details > Aceptar > Solicitar cita
- Online appointments should open every Monday at 09:30h, we recommend you to apply for it at that day/time.

- Fill in the registration form (EX18) x 2 original copies
- A valid passport or national identity card (original and a copy)
- Original and copy of your work contract / precontract or commitment letter of the UVic-UCC
- Medical Insurance or the European Health Insurance Card
- Sworn statement of having economic means during your stay in Spain

- The day of your appointment collect all the original documents mentioned before and go to the police station.

BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL

- Countries whose nationals are submitted to the visa obligation (I) (type C) to enter the Schengen Area.
- Countries whose nationals are exempted (II) from the obligation to obtain a visa for stay periods of up to three months.
UPON YOUR ARRIVAL
Period of stay longer than six months
- You will have a maximum of 30 days after entering the EU to begin the process of applying for the TIE - Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (identification card issued to foreign people living in Spain)
ATTENTION
If you are a Non-UE citizen with a valid permit in other UE country, and your passport was not stamped by the custom authority, you will need to apply for an Entry Declaration at the National Police Station in 72 hours from the entrance in Spain in order to apply for a mobility within UE.
BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL
- Non-EU citizens who have been admited to work in another Member State of the EU are exempted from the obligation to obtain a Spanish visa
- You will have to apply for a Residence Permit. You can also apply after entering Spain, within the period of one month after the entry.
- The documents have to be presented personally by the applicant.

Return Permit
Those non EU citizens who want to enter Spain while applying for extension of his residence permit or applying for the new Id card for Foreigners (TIE), will need to apply for a return permit. The return permit will issued by the National Police Stations. You will need to apply for an appointment at the following web site.
